Insomnia Remedies That You Won’t Hear From You Doctor
Often times doctors are so quick to pull out their prescription pad and pen to write you just the medication you need to solve your problems… And give you a whole slew of side effects. Surely, they just want us to feel better, but they may not know the root of the problem.
If you are experiencing insomnia, there are some insomnia remedies that you won’t hear from your doctor. Finding the right one for you is going to take some experimenting, so you could benefit from testing things and keeping a sleep journal. Additionally you may think to write down any dreams or nightmares you may have. Sometimes those things can be triggered from certain foods and things that are taking place before bedtime.
There are supplements that people sometimes are naturally lacking, so when you take them by mouth you are able to get the natural sleep cycle back on track. One of the more common and heard of supplements is melatonin. Melatonin is the setter for each person’s biological clock. Another helpful sleep aid is valerian, valerian will help one stay in their REM cycle of sleep. Tryptophan is believed to cause sleep issues if someone doesn’t have enough of it. It also helps with depression.
Sleep can be induced by foods as well. You can eat your insomnia remedies for a good night’s rest. For a lot of people it is helpful to not eat right before bed, instead eat about 4 hours prior to hitting the hay.
Some sleepy time foods include:
- Chicken breast (no skin)
- Cheddar cheese
- Almond milk
- Cottage cheese
Sometimes in certain cases people have found restfulness in having a couple cookies with milk about 30 minutes prior to bedtime. However, some people found this gives them their second wind.
Many times it is our sleep environment that keeps us awake. Be sure not to argue, work, or do anything else in bed other than sleep. Also a room for sleep should be kept cool, dark, the bed should be soft with enough pillows, and the room should be quiet. Many times people don’t know what keeps them awake, but it tends to be their environment. Whether it be too noisy, warm, the bed is too hard or too soft, or it is not dark enough.
Sleeplessness affects 1 in every 3 Americans and Europeans. Insomnia is one of the least understood sleep disorders. Often times insomnia affects the elderly, it is thought to be caused by a slowdown in melatonin production. If you experiment with these insomnia remedies that your doctor won’t tell you about, you may just find your cure naturally.
